When our soul is saturated with evil and sins, it needs to be cleansed. That is why it is necessary to pray for confession of sins and renunciation, to confess ourselves before God so that we can discard what fills us with impurities.
Confession helps us to be reconciled with the Lord. It also restores our faith if we lose it. It is participation in the Divine Life communicated to man through the Sacrament of Baptism, recorded in the Holy Scriptures.
In confessing our sins, we discard the excess and the impediment, redeeming what is, filling our conscience with peace and tranquility – a true spiritual resurrection.
In our prayer for confession of faith, to confess our sins, we must ask the Lord to restore our hearts to their original state and make us grow in His image and likeness, and keep us on His path to make His name glorious.
Prayer for confession of sins
God, my sins are too heavy to bear, so I ask You to forgive what our hearts can no longer take, and what has become for us a fire consuming judgment.
Free us from a past that we cannot change; open to us a future in which we can be transformed; give us the grace to grow ever more in your image and likeness.
In the name of the Father, I confess that I have sinned against you in thoughts, words, and deeds, for what I have done and what I have left undone. I have not loved in all sincerity; I have not loved my neighbor as myself.
I repent of evil in prayer, I ask for mercy and forgiveness, to delight in your will and to walk in your commandments, practicing trust, hope, and charity, for the glory of your name.
Almighty Father, I have erred and gone astray from your ways like lost sheep. I have been very close to your desires, and I want to follow the right path, so I ask you to have time for me and to forgive me.
Almighty God, Holy Father, who forgives all those who repent, looks to my firm redemptive purpose and forgives all my mistakes. See my repentance and ask for penance, and I hope in your presence the contrition of the truth now, and that I may cleanse my bad conscience through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
